Private bus hits two-wheeler rider in Mettupalayam, leaves him injured

A private bus attempting to overtake a two-wheeler in Mettupalayam's Housing Unit area collided with the rider, causing a leg fracture. The bus staff left the injured man without medical assistance.

Coimbatore: A shocking incident occurred in Mettupalayam when a private bus, attempting to overtake a two-wheeler, collided with the rider near the Housing Unit area. The impact caused the rider to fall and suffer a leg fracture. The incident, captured on CCTV, has sparked outrage as the bus staff failed to provide immediate medical assistance to the injured person.

Mettupalayam, a town in Coimbatore district, sees numerous government and private buses plying daily to Coimbatore city. However, the route has been witnessing frequent accidents, often resulting in fatalities, primarily due to reckless driving by private bus operators.

The accident occurred when a private bus named "Thamarai," en route from Mettupalayam to Coimbatore, tried to overtake a two-wheeler near the Housing Unit area. The bus came too close to the rider, hitting him from the side and causing him to fall. The bus's wheel then ran over the rider's right leg, resulting in a fracture.

Shockingly, the bus driver and conductor alighted from the vehicle, briefly looked at the injured rider, and instead of arranging for medical assistance, they merely moved him to the roadside before driving away.

Bystanders called for a 108 ambulance, which transported the injured rider to Mettupalayam Government Hospital for initial treatment. He was later referred to Coimbatore Government Hospital for further medical care.

The CCTV footage of the incident has now surfaced, causing a stir among the public. This incident has once again highlighted the need for stricter enforcement of traffic rules and responsible driving, especially among private bus operators in the region.
