Kumaraguru College awards ₹1.6 crore scholarships to 1,675 students

Kumaraguru Institutions awarded ₹1.6 crore scholarships to 1,675 students under the Mahatma Gandhi Merit Scholarship, recognising academic and extracurricular excellence.

Coimbatore: Kumaraguru Institutions awarded scholarships worth ₹1.6 crore to 1,675 students during the Mahatma Gandhi Merit Scholarship (MGS) ceremony held on March 26, 2026, recognising top performers across its institutions.

The scholarship programme, instituted in 2006–07 in honour of founder Dr N Mahalingam, is awarded to the top 10 percent of achievers from institutions including Kumaraguru College of Technology, Kumaraguru College of Liberal Arts and Science, KCT Business School, Kumaraguru Institute of Agriculture and Kumaraguru School of Business.
Each selected student received ₹10,000 in recognition of their performance in academics, sports and NCC activities. The initiative aims to encourage merit and reinforce the importance of consistent effort in achieving excellence.

Dr K P Ramasamy, Chairman of KPR Group, attended the event as chief guest and encouraged students to prioritise focus over comfort and contribute towards building a self-reliant nation.
Delivering the welcome address, Dr M. Ezhilarasi, Principal of Kumaraguru College of Technology, urged students to uphold values of gratitude, social responsibility and institutional integrity in their future careers.
In his presidential address, Dr B K Krishnaraj Vanavarayar highlighted the legacy of the founder and emphasised the role of education in social transformation. He encouraged students to develop qualities such as determination, self-belief and the willingness to explore new opportunities.
He also pointed out that academic degrees alone are not sufficient, stressing that success depends on internal motivation and confidence. Referring to the journey of the chief guest, he cited it as an example of how perseverance and belief can lead to significant achievements.

The ceremony underscored Kumaraguru Institutions’ commitment to nurturing talent and preparing students to contribute meaningfully to society in a rapidly evolving global environment.
