Coimbatore Braces for Heat Peak Before Rain Relief

Coimbatore to witness intense heat till April 21 with temperatures touching 40°C, followed by cloud buildup and possible evening thunderstorms from April 22, bringing slight temperature drop and pre-monsoon weather shift across the district.

Coimbatore: Coimbatore district is set to experience intense summer conditions over the next few days, with temperatures expected to touch 39–40°C till April 21. Weather patterns indicate dry conditions with minimal chances of rainfall, as strong solar heating continues to dominate across the region including Kattur and surrounding areas.

Meteorological trends suggest that the peak heat phase will persist through April 17 to 21, with very high ultraviolet exposure during daytime hours. Residents are likely to experience harsh conditions especially between 11 AM and 4 PM, while nights will remain relatively warm with temperatures hovering around 22–24°C.

A gradual shift in weather is expected from April 22, as cloud formation begins to increase across Coimbatore. Forecast models indicate a 40–50% probability of rainfall, particularly in the form of localized evening thunderstorms. These developments are attributed to pre-monsoon convective activity triggered by rising ground temperatures and moisture inflow.

On the first likely day of rainfall, weather conditions are expected to evolve through the day, starting with sunny skies in the morning and transitioning into cloudy conditions by afternoon. By late afternoon between 3 PM and 6 PM, thundercloud formation may lead to short but intense spells of rain accompanied by gusty winds and lightning in isolated areas.

Following this initial rainfall event, temperatures are expected to dip slightly to around 33–35°C, offering temporary relief from the prevailing heat. However, experts indicate that rainfall during this phase will be intermittent and not continuous, with dry spells likely between isolated showers.

A more consistent pattern of thunderstorms and evening showers is expected to develop towards the end of April, particularly after April 27. This signals the beginning of the seasonal transition towards pre-monsoon conditions in the western parts of Tamil Nadu, influenced by the Western Ghats and atmospheric instability.

Authorities advise residents to take necessary precautions during peak heat hours over the coming days and remain alert for sudden weather changes, especially during late afternoons when thunderstorms are likely to develop.
