19 Goats Worth Rs 2.5 Lakh Stolen from Farmer's Shed in Pappini Near Kangeyam

Unidentified thieves stole 19 goats valued at Rs 2.5 lakh from farmer Ponnusamy's shed in Pappini near Kangeyam, Tiruppur district. The theft occurred at midnight while the goats were locked in the farm shed. Police are investigating and examining CCTV footage.

Tiruppur: In a shocking incident that has created a stir in the Kangeyam region, unidentified thieves made away with 19 goats worth approximately Rs 2.5 lakh from a farmer's shed in Pappini village near Kangeyam in Tiruppur district.

The victim, Ponnusamy (65), is a farmer who practices agriculture and animal husbandry in Pappini area near Kangeyam. He has been raising goats and cattle on his farm as part of his livelihood activities.

According to information received, Ponnusamy followed his daily routine on the day of the incident. In the evening, he took his goats out for grazing as usual. After returning, he secured 19 goats in a three-walled shed (Thondu Patti) located in his farm. The animals included 11 adult goats, one buck, and seven kids. After locking them safely in the shed, Ponnusamy returned to his house for the night, planning to release them for grazing the next morning as per his regular practice.

However, during the midnight hours, unidentified miscreants broke into the farm shed and stole all 19 goats. The total value of the stolen livestock is estimated to be around Rs 2.5 lakh. When Ponnusamy arrived at the shed the next morning to let the goats out for grazing, he was shocked to find the shed empty and all his animals missing.

Upon receiving the complaint, Kangeyam police arrived at the scene and conducted a thorough investigation. The police team examined the theft location and are currently reviewing CCTV camera footage from various routes and surrounding areas to identify the culprits and track the movement of the stolen goats.

This incident has created significant panic among farmers in the Kangeyam region. The area has already been facing challenges with stray dog attacks on livestock, which has been affecting the livelihoods of animal farmers. Now, this theft incident has added to their worries and created fear among those who depend on animal husbandry for their income.

The situation is particularly distressing for farmers in the region as agricultural activities have been severely affected due to water scarcity. In such circumstances, many farmers like Ponnusamy have turned to rearing goats, cattle, and poultry as alternative sources of income. This theft has not only caused a significant financial loss to Ponnusamy but has also created anxiety among other livestock farmers in the area about the safety of their animals.

Police investigations are ongoing, and efforts are being made to recover the stolen goats and apprehend the culprits at the earliest.
