In the sexual assault and murder case of a 10-year-old girl near Sulur, Coimbatore, one of the accused Karthik has been remanded to judicial custody till June 5. He is currently receiving treatment at Coimbatore Government Hospital after sustaining injuries during an alleged escape attempt.
Coimbatore: The Sulur POCSO Court has remanded Karthik, one of the accused in the minor girl sexual assault and murder case, to judicial custody till June 5 while he continues to undergo treatment at the Coimbatore Government Medical College Hospital.
Two persons, Mohanraj and Karthik, were arrested in connection with the brutal sexual assault and murder of a 10-year-old girl near Sulur in Coimbatore.

While Mohanraj had already been remanded to judicial custody earlier, today's proceedings focused on Karthik, who is currently hospitalized.
Karthik had allegedly attempted to escape from police custody yesterday evening in Kannampalayam. During the escape attempt, he reportedly jumped from a building, resulting in fractures to his right arm and right leg. He was immediately rushed to the Coimbatore Government Medical College Hospital for treatment.
Given his hospitalization, POCSO Court judge Bhagavathi Ammal of the Sulur Criminal Court in person arrived to Coimbatore GH to conduct the inquiry and proceedings. After examining the case details and hearing submissions, the judge ordered that Karthik be kept under judicial custody till June 5 while receiving medical treatment.
Police sources say that Karthik will continue to receive necessary medical care at the Coimbatore Government Medical College Hospital under tight police security until he fully recovers from his injuries.
Meanwhile, the accused Mohanraj was produced before the Sulur court earlier today and was remanded to 15 days of judicial custody. He has been lodged at the Coimbatore Central Prison.
