Valparai Records 96 mm Rainfall as Coimbatore Receives Moderate Showers

Coimbatore district recorded 261 mm rainfall in 24 hours, with Valparai leading at 96mm followed by Kinathukadavu at 41mm. Other areas that experienced moderate rainfall included Pillur Dam, which recorded 20mm.


Coimbatore: Coimbatore district experienced varied rainfall patterns over the last 24 hours, with the hill station of Valparai emerging as the highest recipient at 96mm, according to the latest report from the Disaster Management Department. The district recorded an overall average rainfall of 11.37mm during this period.

Kinathukadavu secured the second position with 41mm of rainfall, while P.N. Palayam and other parts of the district reported light to moderate showers. The rainfall distribution showed significant variations across different taluks and regions within the district.

The Valparai region witnessed substantial precipitation, with Valparai PAP recording 23mm and Valparai Taluk receiving 20mm of rainfall. These figures highlight the concentration of rainfall in the elevated terrain of the district's western regions.

Other areas that experienced moderate rainfall included Pillur Dam, which recorded 20mm, and Chinnakallar with 17mm. These locations, situated in the hilly tracts of the district, traditionally receive higher rainfall compared to the plains.

District officials clarified that despite several pockets witnessing moderate rainfall, Coimbatore's overall average rainfall remained categorized as "Light Rainfall" according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) classification system. The cumulative rainfall across Coimbatore district totaled approximately 261mm over the 24-hour period.
