Thirumoorthy Dam Water Level Rises to 55.46 Feet in Udumalaipettai

Thirumoorthy Dam near Udumalaipettai in Tiruppur district recorded a water level of 55.46 feet as of May 26. The dam is receiving an inflow of 841 cusecs while releasing 509 cusecs for irrigation. The 60-feet capacity dam's water level continues to rise steadily.


Coimbatore: The water level at Thirumoorthy Dam, located near Udumalaipettai in Tiruppur district, continues to rise steadily due to recent rainfall in its catchment areas. The dam, which has a maximum storage capacity of 60 feet, has been receiving consistent inflow over the past few days.




As of May 26, the water level at Thirumoorthy Dam stands at 55.46 feet, according to Water Resources Department officials. The continuous inflow from the catchment areas has resulted in a gradual increase in the reservoir's water level, bringing relief to local farmers and residents.




The dam is currently receiving an inflow of 841 cubic feet per second (cusecs) from its catchment areas. Simultaneously, water is being released at a rate of 509 cusecs for irrigation purposes to meet the agricultural water requirements of Udumalaipettai and surrounding areas, Water Resources Department officials explained.




With the sustained inflow, the dam is expected to reach its full capacity soon. This development is particularly significant for farmers in Udumalaipettai and neighboring regions, as it ensures adequate water availability for agricultural activities during the upcoming cultivation season. The steady rise in water level has brought optimism among the farming community who depend on the dam for irrigation needs.
