Blanket ban on all protests for 15 days

The Commissioner of Police has stated that no protests, public gatherings, processions or any kind of demonstrations will be allowed in Coimbatore for the next 15 days starting Wednesday.

In a press release, A. Amalraj, the Commissioner of Police, said that any political or communal outfit that carries out such processions without the knowledge of the city police would be strictly dealt with.

The blanket ban came into effect from the midnight of 06.04.2016, and will continue until 20.04.2016.

Putting up any type of flex posters and other hoardings without prior permission will also be seen as a crime and offenders will be punished under the law, according to the statement. Those who are willing to stage such demonstrations should get a prior permission from the CoP in person, at least five days ahead of the protest date.

It may be noted that CoP had issued such order earlier during the month of December, citing security concerns.
