Coimbatore Police Warn Against Scholarship Fraud

The Coimbatore District Police have warned students and parents against fraudsters posing as government or school officials and seeking bank details, OTPs and advance payments in the name of educational scholarships.

Coimbatore:

The Coimbatore District Police have issued a public warning against fake calls and online scams related to educational scholarships. A cyber safety awareness message was shared through the department’s official social media channels to alert students and parents.

According to the police, fraudsters are impersonating government officials and school authorities, claiming to help students obtain educational scholarships and financial assistance.

The scammers allegedly collect sensitive information such as bank account details, OTPs and advance payments from unsuspecting victims under the pretext of processing scholarship benefits.

Police have advised the public to remember that government departments and educational institutions do not demand money for providing scholarship assistance. Students and parents have also been urged not to share bank account details, passwords or OTPs with anyone.

Authorities further stated that scholarship-related information should be verified only through official government websites and the concerned educational institutions.

The police have requested the public to immediately report suspicious calls, messages or online fraud attempts through the National Cyber Crime Helpline by dialing 1930.
