Coimbatore Hosts Emotional Reunion of Veteran District Cricketers

Fifty-two former cricketers who represented Coimbatore and Tamil Nadu teams between 1970s and 2000 recently gathered in Coimbatore. The group, called Past CDCA Golden Cricketers, shared their memorable cricket experiences from their playing days across district, state and university levels.

Coimbatore: A nostalgic reunion brought together 52 former cricketers who once represented Coimbatore and Tamil Nadu across various levels of competitive cricket spanning three decades from the 1970s to 2000.

The gathering, organized by the group calling themselves 'Past CDCA Golden Cricketers', saw former players who had donned jerseys for district schools, state schools, district colleges, combined district colleges, Madras University, Coimbatore senior districts, combined districts, and Tamil Nadu Under-22 and Under-25 teams.

The reunion provided a platform for these cricketers to reconnect and reminisce about their playing days, sharing memorable experiences from matches and tournaments that shaped their cricket careers. The participants represented various age groups and levels of competition during their active years.

Among the notable attendees was S Natarajan, who had represented Coimbatore district, Tamil Nadu combined districts, and the Tamil Nadu Under-22 team during his playing career.

The CDCA (Coimbatore District Cricket Association) has been instrumental in nurturing cricket talent in the region for decades. These former cricketers were part of the golden era when cricket was gaining popularity in Coimbatore and surrounding districts.

The event highlighted the strong bonds formed through sport and the lasting impact of cricket in bringing together players across generations. Many participants expressed their joy at reconnecting with former teammates and opponents after several years.

Such reunions serve as a reminder of Coimbatore's rich sporting heritage and the contribution of these players in promoting cricket at grassroots and competitive levels across Tamil Nadu.
