6-Foot Cannabis Plant Seized from House Near Pollachi; Migrant Worker Arrested

A migrant worker from West Bengal was arrested by the Prohibition Enforcement Wing police after they allegedly found a six-foot-tall cannabis plant being cultivated near the house where he was staying in the Pollachi area of Coimbatore district.

Coimbatore: A six-foot-tall cannabis plant allegedly cultivated near the residence of a migrant worker from West Bengal was seized by the Prohibition Enforcement Wing (PEW) police near Pollachi in Coimbatore district. The worker, identified as Almo Keer Mola, was arrested in connection with the case and remanded in judicial custody.

As part of ongoing efforts to curb the sale, transportation and cultivation of narcotic substances in Coimbatore district, police have intensified surveillance and checks at various locations, including inter-State border areas, on the instructions of Coimbatore District Superintendent of Police Pavan Kumar Reddy.

During one such operation, PEW personnel were conducting vehicle checks in the Kanjampatti area based on a tip-off when they intercepted Mola, a native of West Bengal who was working at a poultry farm in the locality.

During the inquiry, police allegedly found that Mola had brought cannabis seeds from West Bengal and was cultivating a cannabis plant near the house where he was staying.

Based on the information obtained during the inquiry, PEW personnel subsequently conducted a search at the Kasipattinam area, where Mola was residing. During the search, they allegedly found a well-grown cannabis plant measuring around six feet in height and seized it.

Police registered a case in connection with the alleged illegal cultivation, arrested Mola and produced him before a court. He was subsequently remanded in judicial custody.

Police said further investigation into the source of the seeds and the circumstances surrounding the cultivation is underway.
