Amaravathi and Thirumurthy Dams Record Rising Water Levels Following Continuous Inflow

Amaravathi Dam in Tiruppur district has recorded a water level of 57.12 feet due to continuous inflow. Water Resources Department officials report an inflow of 202 cubic feet per second. Thirumurthy Dam's water level stands at 33.92 feet as of August 21.

Coimbatore: The Amaravathi Dam in Tiruppur district has witnessed a significant rise in water levels due to continuous inflow following rainfall in its catchment areas. As of August 21, the water level in this dam, which has a total storage capacity of 90 feet, has risen to 57.12 feet, according to Water Resources Department officials.

The dam has been receiving steady inflows due to rainfall in its catchment areas. Currently, Amaravathi Dam is recording an inflow of 202 cubic feet per second, officials stated. The required quantity of water is being released from the dam in a controlled manner to maintain optimal levels.

Similarly, the Thirumurthy Dam, located near Udumalaipettai in Tiruppur district, is also showing satisfactory water storage conditions. This dam, with a maximum storage capacity of 60 feet, has recorded a water level of 33.92 feet as of August 21, Water Resources Department officials informed.

Officials reported that 21 cubic feet of water per second is being released from Thirumurthy Dam. With continued inflow in the catchment areas of both dams, water levels are expected to rise gradually in the coming days.

The rising water levels in these dams are expected to significantly improve drinking water supply and irrigation facilities for agricultural lands across Tiruppur district. Water Resources Department officials are continuously monitoring the water levels in both reservoirs to ensure proper management and optimal utilization of the stored water for the benefit of farmers and residents in the region.
