In a major interstate drug trafficking operation, Kerala Police seized 12.80 kg of MDMA (psychoactive drug) worth more than ₹10 crore from a luxury car in Coimbatore and arrested three Kerala natives. The drugs were allegedly concealed in specially built secret compartments inside all four doors of the vehicle.
Coimbatore: In a major interstate drug bust, Kerala Police arrested three men and seized 12.80 kg of MDMA (methylenedioxymethamphetamine), a synthetic psychoactive drug, valued at more than ₹10 crore in Coimbatore. Police reportedly found the drugs concealed in specially designed secret compartments inside all four doors of a luxury car in the city.
According to reports, the operation followed the seizure of 97 grams of MDMA during a vehicle check in the Manjeri police limits in Kerala a few days ago. During the subsequent investigation, police reportedly uncovered information about a larger drug network allegedly sourcing high-potency narcotics from Delhi, Maharashtra, Bengaluru for distribution in several cities across Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
Based on the information gathered, a special investigation team led by District Police Chief Chaitra Teresa John. Manjeri Inspector T.G. Dileep and the District Anti-Narcotics Special Action Force (DANSAF) squad began monitoring the suspected network.
The investigation reportedly revealed that key members of the alleged trafficking operation were staying at a private hotel in Coimbatore and allegedly operating their drug activities from there.
Acting on the information, a team led by Manjeri Police Inspector T.G. Dileep travelled to Coimbatore and reportedly detained three suspects from the identified accommodation.
They were identified as Jabir Ali (32) of Pandallur in Malappuram; Shayim Akbar (21) of Anakkayam in Manjeri; and Muhammad Sahil (34) of Meppadi in Wayanad.
Police subsequently subjected the luxury car allegedly used by the suspects to a detailed search using a metal detector and specialised equipment. The inspection reportedly revealed carefully constructed concealed compartments inside all four door panels.
Inside these compartments, police allegedly found MDMA crystals packed in airtight plastic packets weighing between 100 grams and 500 grams each, with the total quantity estimated at 12.80 kg. The seized drug was reportedly valued at more than ₹10 crore in the international illicit market.
The three accused were produced before a court and remanded in judicial custody. The luxury car allegedly used for transporting the drugs was also seized.
Police are continuing their investigation to identify the alleged suppliers, as well as intermediaries and other members of the network who may have been involved in procuring and distributing the drugs in Coimbatore and Kerala.
