R.S. Puram House Burglary: Man Arrested; ₹3 lakh Worth Silver, Cash Recovered

A 54-year-old man was arrested in connection with a burglary at the residence of an auditor in Coimbatore’s R.S. Puram area last week. Police recovered silver articles worth ₹3 lakh and ₹30,000 in cash from the accused.


Coimbatore: The Coimbatore City Police have arrested a 54-year-old man in connection with a burglary at a house in R.S. Puram and recovered silver articles valued at ₹3 lakh and ₹30,000 in cash.

According to the police, the burglary occurred at the residence of V.R. Suryanarayanan, a 76-year-old auditor living on Robertson Road in R.S. Puram. The family had retired for the night on August 31 after securing the house.

When Suryanarayanan came out of his bedroom at around 6.30 a.m. on September 1, he found that the rear door had been broken open. The adjoining puja room was also found open, with articles inside scattered.

Silver items, including lamps and tumblers, were found missing, along with around ₹40,000 in cash and a collection of old coins, police said.

Based on a complaint, the B2 R.S. Puram police registered a case and formed a special team on the directions of senior city police officials. The investigation led to the arrest of Gunasekaran, 54, within a week.

Police subsequently recovered the stolen silver articles valued at ₹3 lakh and ₹30,000 in cash. The accused was remanded in judicial custody.
