Dengue Inspection: Coimbatore Corporation Fines Building Owner ₹90,000

Coimbatore Corporation health officials imposed a ₹90,000 fine on a building owner after Aedes mosquito larvae were found at his premises on Kalingarayan Street in Ward 67 during a dengue prevention inspection.

Coimbatore: A building owner in Coimbatore’s Ward 67 was fined ₹90,000 after Corporation health officials found Aedes mosquito larvae at his premises on Kalingarayar Street in Ramnagar during a dengue prevention inspection on Monday.

The inspection was carried out as part of the Corporation’s ongoing efforts to identify and eliminate mosquito breeding sources and prevent the spread of dengue. Officials found Aedes mosquito larvae in water-holding containers at his site, following which the building owner was fined ₹90,000, under the Tamil Nadu Public Health Act, 1939.

The Corporation has urged residents, building owners and establishments to maintain proper sanitation and ensure that stagnant water does not accumulate in ground-level water tanks and other containers, which can become breeding grounds for Aedes mosquitoes.

Officials said efforts to identify and eliminate potential breeding sources of Aedes mosquitoes, which transmit dengue, are continuing across Coimbatore.
