Coimbatore: Over 300 Vinayagar idols installed across Thudiyalur, Kavundampalayam, and Periyanaickenpalayam areas of Coimbatore were immersed on the third day at an artificial pond near Vellakinaru, after the Corporation filled it with water since the natural pond had dried up due to drought.

The idols had been installed and worshipped by various Hindu organizations and members of the public, including Hindu Munnani, Bharatiya Janata Party, Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Akhila Bharat Hindu Maha Sabha, Hindu Makkal Katchi, Bharat Sena, Shiv Sena, and Anuman Sena.

On the third day, the idols that had been installed were brought in a vehicle procession to Vellakinaru. Since the pond in the area had no water due to drought conditions, the Corporation had arranged for an artificial pond, 20 feet deep, and filled it with water specifically for the immersion.

Corporation staff, along with personnel from the Fire and Rescue Services department, entered the water at the pond to receive the Vinayagar idols and carried out the immersion. Heavy police security was deployed for the idol procession and the immersion event.
