With the upcoming festive season, Southern Railway will operate five weekly special train services between Thiruvananthapuram North and Santragachi from October 2 to November 2, 2026, via Coimbatore, Podanur, Tiruppur, Erode, Salem and Jolarpettai to meet increased passenger demand.
Coimbatore: A 16-year-old schoolboy sustained serious injuries after a van allegedly collided with another van on Ramanathapuram’s 80-Feet Road in Coimbatore on September 18.
The injured student is the son of Ravi (41), a resident of Sadayappar Street in Ganeshapuram, Ramanathapuram.
According to the police, the incident occurred at around 12.30 p.m. on September 18, when a van was parked facing north on the 80-Feet Road, opposite Dhanvanthari Ayurveda Pharmacy. The student was seated inside the parked vehicle.
At the time, another van travelling from the south towards the north allegedly approached at high speed and in a negligent manner before colliding forcefully with the left side of the parked van.
The student sustained serious bleeding injuries to the fingers of his right hand and was immediately admitted to a Private Hospital for treatment.
The East Traffic Investigation Wing has registered a case against Rajendran (57), a resident of Podanur, who allegedly caused the accident. The case was registered by Special Sub-Inspector Umadevi, and further investigation is under way.
