Duo caught trying to loot bus passengers

Two thieves were caught red handed and gold jewellery worth 2 lakh was recovered from them on Wednesday night. Police claimed that the duo used to travel in buses to rob commuters.

The arrested people were identified as Kumar, 36, from Kongu Nagar at Vilankurichi Road and Ramu, 37, from Cheran Maa Nagar. They are natives of Sivagangna district settled in Coimbatore city.

On Wednesday, Sanambika, 30, from Peelamedupudur was travelling in a bus to Raja Street from Gandhi Park. She was carrying 3.5 sovereigns of gold including a chain and a ring. Two passengers lifted her bag and tried to escape. However, she raised an alarm and the commuters caught them red handed. They were handed over to the police.

SSI R Marimuthu and team conducted an inquiry with the duo. Police said, the duo was involved in more than 20 theft cases. They often travelled in crowded buses and diverted the attention of passengers, throwing coins or currency notes. When passengers tried to pick up the coins or currency notes, the duo lifted their bags.

The investigation revealed that the duo lifted a bag from 40-year-old N Prema of Narasimmanaickenpalayam in a bus, stealing three sovereigns of gold.
