Prohibition not possible immediately, says political change front

Joining the debate on banning alcohol, the newly-formed Maattru Arasiyal Koottani (Political Change Front), has said that prohibition is possible only through a long term process. The party released its manifesto in Coimbatore on Wednesday.

Even as all the political parties are going all guns blazing at the ruling AlADMK for saying that prohibition will be implemented step-by-step, the Political Change Front (PCF) consisting of the Gandhiya Makkal lyakkam and Abdul Kalam Vision India Party, has taken a slightly different approach it has criticized the ruling party for not fixing a timeframe for its step-by-step prohibition proposal.

"If prohibition is brought abruptly, it will only add up to the debts that the state has incurred, because the sale of liquor generates an annual income of Rs.32000 crores. But, we can implement it in three years, with the plans that we have elaborated in the manifesto," Ponraj Vellaichamy, a scientist at the Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA), and the founder of the Abdul Kalam Vision Party, said.

Declaring that their alliance will form the government by the year 2021 with the developments they had discussed in their manifesto, Ponraj also added that their aim was to ensure that Tamil Nadu becomes as good as a developed country.

"We would bring three revolutions - white revolution to eradicate corruption and give transparent governance; blue revolution to link all the rivers and clear encroachments on water bodies; and Permanent Green Revolution to develop agriculture," he said.

Further informing that their alliance will not focus on cancellation of debts and handing out freebies, Ponraj added that their governance will help farmers and students repay their debts by empowering them.

He also stated that their government will focus on education and hygiene, and make Tamil the governing and research language.

"With the plans we have discussed, we can generate revenue of up to Rs.81,000 crores by the year 2021," he assured.
