Variety of breeds participate in dog show

It was a weekend outing in Udhagamandalam for all participants who had come from various parts of the  country to take part in the dog show organised by The South of India Kennel Club (SIKC).

The show that was held from May 6 to 8 had 418 participants in 50 different breeds. As every year, it was a fun-filled event too and the rain and cool temperature made the show a perfect treat for all the pet lovers.

The new breeds this year were the Welsch Corgi Cardigan, Welsch Corgi Pembroke, Springer Spaniel and Miniature Schnauzer.

Some other breeds in the show were Siberian Husky, Irish setter, Shih Tzu, Miniature Pinscher Borzoi, Caravan Hound, Whippet, Fox Terrier Smooth, Pashmi and Afghan Hound.

There were nine winners in all from the three rings with three winners from each ring.

From The Federation Cynologique Internationale Asia Pacific ( APAC) show the winner was the Siberian Husky and from the 122nd and 123rd SIKC show the winners were of the German Shepherd breed. The first place winners in the respective rings are now qualified to go to Crufts Dog Show which is the world’s largest dog show that takes place in England.

Helen Weil, David Weil from Australia, and, Sabian P Daza from Columbia were the judges for the event.

The South of India Kennel is one of the oldest kennel clubs in India. It is affiliated with the Kennel Club of India.
