30 IPS trainees to work with election officials

As many as 30 IPS trainees would be deployed to assist election officials in Western Tamil Nadu as part of their training programme.

The IPS trainees on Thursday visited the city police commissionerate here, where Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy director Aruna M Bahuguna from Hyderabad instructed them about their responsibilities in the state assembly election and how they have to turn it into a learning experience.

The national police academy deputy director, S Raveendran, was also part of the team that visited the city police commissionerate. Aruna Bahuguna was given guard of honour by city police.

Senior police officials said as part of the training sessions, all the 30 IPS trainees would work with election officials and Tamil Nadu police officials. The trainees would be introduced to the poll flying squads, static surveillance teams and returning officers in Coimbatore city, Coimbatore rural, Tirupur city and rural, Erode, Salem city and rural, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Namakkal, Karur and Dindigul districts.

"They were given details about the state assembly election, number of voters per constituency, critical and sensitive polling stations. They will get field knowledge about the general election and the ECI's function with the government body," said S Lakshmi, deputy commissioner of police (law&order), Coimbatore city.
