Peaceful polling at 20 Maoist vulnerable booths

The state assembly election was held in a peaceful manner in 20 polling stations that were identified as vulnerable to Maoist threat in Anaikatti and surrounding areas in Coimbatore district on Monday. Indo-Tibetan Border Police Force personnel and rural police were deployed who were monitored by the Election Commission of India through web cams.

Following the Maoist attack in Attapady area in Palakkad district, security was tightened in the border areas of the district. Maoists movements were often noticed in the bordering areas and rural police decided to deploy more paramilitary personnel to prevent any untoward incident in the 20 vulnerable polling stations.

Four paramilitary personnel were deployed at a government school at Jambukandi where three polling stations for Aalamaramedu, Koottupulikkadu, Jambukandi tribal settlement areas were functioning. So, more protection was given for the polling stations.

Two booths (number 149, 141) were located in two school campuses at Anaikatti for Thuvaipathi, Kalkadu, Vadakkalur and Thekkalur villages and surrounding areas. These two booths were under cameras surveillance. After the polling was over, the paramilitary force personnel took the EVMs to the counting centre at the Government College of Technology, Thadagam Road, Coimbatore city.
