15-year-old boy detained for murdering friend

A 15-year-old boy was arrested for murdering his 14-year-old friend by smashing his head on a boulder after he allegedly played games on his mobile phone without his permission, at Tirupuli Nadu atop Kolli Hills on Wednesday.

The deceased was identified as K Jayaraj, 14, son of Kali from Tirupuli Nadu. He was a Class 9 student at a government school in the same locality. The Vazhavanthi Nadu police have arrested his 15-year-old friend in connecton with this case.

According to police, Jayaraj went missing on Monday and his parents had filed a boy missing case with the Vazhavanthi Nadu police the same day after he failed to return home. Preliminary investigations revealed that the boy was seen playing with the accused on Monday. That was the last he was spotted, police said.

When police interrogated the minor boy, he did not give satisfactory answers. Growing suspicious, they grilled him for hours after which he confessed to the crime. He told police that he had picked up a quarrel with Jayaraj on the fateful day and in a moment of fury smashed his friend's head on a boulder.

"In a fit of rage, the minor boy smashed Jayaraj's head against a boulder, killing him on the spot," police said. Subsequently, the accused hid the body behind some bushes and returned home.

Police have retrieved the body from the bushes and sent it to Namakkal government hospital for post-mortem.
