BJP is the real alternative, says Vanathi Srinivasan

'People have rejected the DMDK-PWA-TMC, which was decimated in the just-concluded election'.

Bharatiya Janata Party is the real alternative for the two Dravidian parties – AIADMK and DMK – as people have rejected the DMDK-PWA-TMC, which was decimated in the just-concluded election, said the State vice-president of the party, Vanathi Srinivasan, in Coimbatore on Friday.

Addressing a press conference at the party office, she said that people’s vote for the BJP was an endorsement of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s policies and reflection of the faith that it was the real alternative to both the parties.

She said that the party’s vote share had increased in this election, particularly in the Coimbatore district. The votes were ‘honest’ votes as the party did not bribe the voters. The party’s performance was also indicative of its commitment to the people.

The party would continue its work for the welfare of the people, she added.

In response to a question, Ms. Srinivasan said that the Election Commission of India postponing the election in Aravakurichi and Thanjavur constituencies was a warning to parties that indulged in bribing voters. The Commission should not stop with this but go ahead to ban the parties that bribed voters.

Commenting on the DMDK-PWA-TMC alliance, she said that the defeat of the Chief Ministerial candidate Vijayakant only showed the level of people’s faith in him and the alliance.
