No Cases To Be Given To This Madras High Court Judge, Says Supreme Court

New Delhi: In an unprecedented rebuke, the Supreme Court has said that no cases should be assigned to controversial judge CS Karnan of the Madras High Court.

The action comes after Justice Karnan said he would fight his transfer to the Calcutta High Court, as ordered last week by a panel of judges headed by Chief Justice of India, TS Thakur. Justice Karnan declared today that he has suspended the order that reassigns him; he asked the Chief Justice of India "not to interfere" with his jurisdiction.

Justice Karnan has alleged discrimination because he belongs to a Scheduled Caste. He has accused the senior-most judge of the Madras High Court, Chief Justice Sanjay Kaul, of harassment and belittlement and threatened to file a case against him. The High Court then asked the Supreme Court to intervene by transferring Justice Karnan.
