Pass percentage drops in The Nilgiris

The over all pass percentage in the SSLC board exams in The Nilgiris has dropped to 93.35 per cent this year from 94.09 per cent last year. This year a total of 9,584 students from 181 schools appeared in the examinations held in March-April and 8,937 of them cleared the exams.

However, there is an increase in the number of schools that have recorded a 100 per cent pass. Last year 55 schools reached the figure while this year it has climbed to 71.

Of the 93 private schools in the district 42 have registered a 100 per cent pass and 29 of the total 88 government schools have also reached the mark.

Among schools that secured 100 per cent pass is the Government Tribal Residential School at Kargudi. The school has reached the mark for the fourth consecutive year. In all 300 centums were scored by students of the district.

It included 159 in social science, 81 in mathematics and 60 in science.

District Collector P. Shankar greeted the district toppers at the collectorate.

Chief Education Officer (CEO) T. Ganeshamoorthy said that the department will conduct a micro level analysis to study the reason behind the drop in pass percentage.

“We will then formulate steps to improve the results,” he said.
