Chargesheet filed against 11 in dalit murder case

More than two months after dalit youth Shankar was murdered by a three member gang for marrying a Hindu girl, 11 people have been charge-sheeted in the case. The case has been transferred from the Udumalpet district court to the Tirupur district court. The next hearing has been scheduled on June 8.

The names of people included in the charge sheet are M Manikandan, 25, a construction worker from Ramar Kovil Street in Palani, P Jagadeeshan, 31, a car driver, M Michael alias Madhan, a load man, P Selvakumar, 25, a load man, all hailing from Dindigul and M Manikandan, 39, from Anna Nagar in Pattiveeranpatti, Dindigul district. Manikandan was arrested for harbouring the accused in his house.The above people were arrested by the police under charges of murder.

Kousalya's maternal uncle, Pandidhurai, and a student who was the family's informer, Prasanna have also been named. Kowsalya's father, Chinnasamy, 39, hailing from Palini in Dindigul district, mother, Annalakshmi, their friends Dhanraj and Tamil Kalaivanan, who were among the planners, have been named as well. Police officials said the accused met at several temple functions to plot the murder.
