Residents protest against irregular water supply

Just a stone’s throw away from Coimbatore Corporation head office in Town Hall, residents of Okkiliar Street sat on a protest on Friday afternoon. Their grouse: irregular water supply.

According to sources, more than 50 residents of Okkiliar Street 1, 2, 3 and the nearby Kuruvikkara Street staged a protest at Five Corner to condemn the Corporation for not supplying Siruvani water.

The residents also complained that the supply of ground water too had stopped, leaving them with very little water to drink.

Resident T. Dilip said that the residents had been grudging for quite sometime because the water supply cycle got extended from once in two days to once in six days.

During this period, they made good the poor supply with ground water.

The supply of the ground water too stopped.

Then the residents relied on water tanker supply.

Narrow lanes

But that did not take off because the lanes were too narrow for the vehicles to enter and the pipeline could not reach all the houses.

Left with the little choice, they were forced to take to the streets to draw the attention of the authorities concerned, he added.

Sources said that the Corporation was looking into the complaint and that it would redress the residents’ grievance at the earliest.
