More programmes planned for Car Free Sundays

Car Free Sundays, an initiative by The Hindu Tamil in partnership with Coimbatore Corporation and Coimbatore City Traffic Police will resume on May 29 on NSR Road, Sai Baba Colony, here. The event completed ten weeks on May 22.

The event started in February this year completed nine weeks on April 24 and it took a three week break because of the elections to the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly and again it resumed on May 22.

The 11th week will commence with a work out session by Beethoven Fitness, illusions by Tarun, followed by an instrumental performance by the Coimbatore Cultural Academy. A number of stage and off-stage events will be held for children to showcase their talents.

The activities this week include a mime, a speech by Kavidasan, Director of Roots Industries, a programme to create an awareness on Anti Tobacco Day, and an interaction with the audience by Dr. C. Palanivelu, chairman, Gem Hospitals. The Hindu English is the media partner.

The objective behind the initiative is to restore the roads for the people for them to enjoy by stopping motorised forms of transports from 6.30 a.m. to 9 a.m.

The entire 800 m stretch would be available for portrait sketching, tattooing, drawing on the road, cycling, among others. Radio City is the radio partner, and Mark 1 Events is the event manager.

Traffic diversion

Vehicles from Mettuppalayam Road entering the NSR Road shall take a left turn to Bharathi Park IInd Cross and enter Azhagesan Road to proceed towards Thadagam Road. These vehicles will enter the Thadagam Road stretch near Bharathi School.

Vehicles shall take a left turn at Bharathi School to reach Azhagesan Road to reach Mettuppalayam Road or take a left turn at Bharathi Park IInd Cross to reach NSR Road.
