Protest against toll collection at Kaniyur

The flyover work is in progress at Neelambur and in the stretch between Madukkarai to Walayar. A toll plaza has been set up as part of the National Highways road development work from Chengapalli to Neelambur and from Madukkarai to Walayar. But the residents of that area are irked with the toll collection even before the work is over. A committee has been formed to protest against the toll collection at Kaniyur on July 15.

The protest will be carried out by hoisting black flags from Chengapalli to Neelambur. The committee has various demands. They want the toll to be exempted for industrial units within 20 km radius from the plaza. They also demanded that no toll be collected from farmers in that area and the toll collected so far at Kaniyur should be paid to the Government immediately by the concessionaire.

The committee will be coordinated by P.V. Gopal and the members will be residents, lorry owners, farmers, and some of the panchayat union leaders.
