Tamilnadu lawyers go on a hunger strike

The lawyers of the Tamilnadu Bar Council will go on a hunger strike protesting against the new amendment by the Madras High Court. On 25th of May, TN government issued a gazette notification about the new amendments to rules under Section 34(1) of the Advocates act.

The anguished lawyers are of the view that the 2 new amendments which are of the view that a lawyer can be debarred if he coerced or abuses a judicial officer or judge and if he is found to have spread unsubstantiated allegations or petitions against guilty of a judicial officer or a judge to the Superior Court. 

As a repercussion of the chain reaction, Coimbatore city lawyers staged a protest today urging that the high court should alter these amendments as they intend to curb their freedom. The strike announcement has created concern to the people as it might cause delay and pile up cases.
