Brain dead bus driver's organs save lives of 7 patients

Mr. Natarjan aged 36, a bus driver in a private transport company at Erode was diagnosed with grade-IV subarachnoid haemorrhage due to high blood pressure. He was admitted initially in KMCH, Erode and later shifted to KMCH at Avinashi Road, Coimbatore. His condition got worsened and was declared brain dead on 27th June, 2016. 



The heartbroken family members unanimously decided and gave their consent to the medical team for organ donation. A team of doctors from KMCH and Coimbatore Govt Hospital immediately expedited the statutory process and the carried out the needful for retrieving the organs from his body. The Heart, Liver, Kidneys, Eyes and skin were rushed to private hospitals around Coimbatore.

A special counselling session was arranged by KMCH psychiatric department for the family members, in the intent to console them and recover them from the post-traumatic stress. The family members conveyed that they are feeling content as the organs has saved the valuable lives of 7 other people. Dr. Kumaran, Dean KMCH, thanked the family members for their thoughtful decision and assured that such actions will create awareness among the people on organ donation.

Natarajan is survived by his wife Yashotha, and two children, daughter-6 years old and son-6 months old.
