Uttarakhand cloudburst: At least 30 killed in Chamoli, Pithoragarh; NDRF teams rushed

Heavy rains triggered cloudbursts in several districts of Uttarakhand, killing many people and washing away houses, on Friday. The death toll due to incessant rains in Chamoli and Pithoragarh rose to 30. Following the flash flood, the water level rose in Nandaprayag area.

Union Home Minister, Rajnath Singh, said, “NDRF teams rushed to the areas affected by could burst in Uttarakhand. Additional teams of NDRF are also put on alert.”

Singh tweeted, “Spoke to CM U’khand Shri Harish Rawat regarding the situation post the cloud burst in the state. Centre is providing all possible assistance.”

Two houses in the Ghat area of Chamoli district were washed away in River Mandakini, while other houses were in danger. Chamoli was the worst affected as River Alaknanda crossed the danger level mark.

The cloud bursts at Bastadia and Pithoragarh districts, reportedly, injured many people.

The Rishikesh-Badrinath National Highway (NH-58) was blocked due to heavy rains and landslide near Devprayag.
