New IS video calls for more attacks in Bangladesh

Hailing the July 1 terror attack in Gulshan neighbourhood, Dhaka, the Islamic State (IS) has released a new video calling for jihad in Bangladesh, threatening more attacks on “crusaders” and “crusader nations”.

“What you witnessed in Bangladesh ... was a glimpse. This will repeat, repeat and repeat until you lose and we win and the sharia is established throughout the world,” said a man identified as Bangladeshi fighter Abu Issa al-Bengali, in the video monitored by SITE intelligence site.

The IS video began with pictures of recent attacks in Paris, Brussels and Orlando. The fighter in the video, who spoke in both Bengali and English, said Bangladesh must know that it was now part of a bigger battlefield to establish the cross-border “caliphate”.

Meanwhile, parents of Nibras Islam, one of the attackers killed in army commando operation, apologised to the nation and demanded stern action against those who pushed their son toward extremism. “We’re ashamed of knowing of our son’s involvement in Gulshan’s Holey Artisan restaurant terror attack. We apologise to the entire nation, the people of the country and the international community,” said Nibras’s father, Nazrul Islam in a written statement obtained by a local news agency.

Earlier, Imtiaz Khan Babul, an Awami League member and father of killed militant another militant Rohan Imtiaz, had apologised to the nation.

Also, Bangladesh on Wednesday asked India to examine the speeches of controversial Islamic preacher Zakir Nayek after reports that his ‘hate speech’ inspired one of the militants.

Nayek, a popular Islamic orator and founder of Mumbai-based Islamic Research Foundation, is banned in the U.K. and Canada for his ‘hate speech’ aimed at other religions. He is among 16 banned Islamic scholars in Malaysia.
