Photo Story of the Week - Naatru Nadum Vizha in Perur Patteeswarar Kovil

The City's iconic Perur Patteeswarar Temple hosted the customary Seedling Transplanting (Referred as "Naatru Nadum Vizha") festival yesterday at the temple grounds between 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm. The event which would be flagged off every year during the month of July (AANI in tamil month) saw the local farmers around the region gather in large numbers and offer the first seedlings to the deity seeking the blessings of Lord Patteeswarar for a great harvest and adequate monsoons rains.

People were seen in heightened jubilation, especially women and teenagers orchestrated traditional dances and sang the sowing rhymes in chorus which was kind of a time travel experience for the Urban people, who have witnessed such scenes only through cinema.

The earnest attitude of the farmer and his devotion and dedication towards the soil could be witnessed all through the event. We present you with an exclusive coverage of the images shot during the event. Do share the images with your Children who should be aware of our City's customs and the factual earnestness behind it.

These traditions have lived with us for thousands of years and is a testament that our people worshipped the soil, the produce they cultivate through farming and the livestocks. These pictures depict the people's respect for what nature has provided them.
