72-Hour Weather Alert for 8 Districts in Uttarakhand from Thursday

Dehradun: A 72-hour weather alert starting Thursday for eight of Uttarakhand's 13 districts has been issued by the state's Met department along with the Indian Meteorological Department.

Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Dehradun, Pithoragarh, Bageshwar, Almora, Nainital and Champawat - spread across both the Kumaon and Garhwal region of the hill state - have been put on alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall from anywhere between 115.6 to 204.4 mm.

Though the state machinery has been on its toes ever since the monsoon made its presence felt in the region a month ago, they are leaving no stones unturned to ensure that there is minimal damage to life and property.

National Disaster Response Force, State Disaster Response Fund, and Indo-Tibetan Border Police Force personnel have been stationed en route the state's major roads to deal with any eventuality which might arise due to inclement weather.

State machinery is working on war-footing to  ensure that landslips and roadblocks are cleared on priority basis; first aid facility and emergency ration is stored and made available without much ado especially along the Chardham Yatra route which has been disrupted off and on due to rain playing havoc in the interiors of the hill-state.

While a deluge in the interiors of Pithoragarh and Chamoli a few weeks earlier led to over a dozen deaths and numerous missing, the state government is focusing on relief and rescue for those who are adversely affected by rains across the hill-state.
