Florida: Two dead, 14 injured in shooting at nightclub Club Blu

At least two people have been killed and over a dozen injured after a shooting at a nightclub in Fort Myers, Florida, news agencies reported. The victims have not yet been identified. The shooting reportedly took place at Club Blu at around 12.30 am, Lt. Jim Mulligan of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office told reporters. There was no confirmation on the number of deaths, with local media reporting that there could be several dead in the shooting.

A witness speaking to Wink News, a television channel based in Fort Myers, said there were reports of gunshots and people poured out of the nightclub. One woman who lives two blocks from Club Blu told Wink News she heard about 30 gunshots from what she believes to have been multiple guns.

The club was hosting a party for teenagers and reports suggested that those present at the venue could be as young as 13. A large number of police personnel are present at the scene and it is not yet known if the gunman has been arrested. When police officials arrived at the scene, several victims suffering from gunshots were found in the parking lot.

Washington Post reports that there are two other incidents that are connected to the shooting including a residence and a vehicle. WaPo further reports that a person of interest has been detained in the second location. More details in the case are awaited.
