A 70-year old Tamarind tree was rescued today by Osai team.
A resident of Karumbukadai area tried to cut a 70-year-old tamarind tree without seeking due permissions from the officials. The tree was considered as an obstruction to expand their building and hence they planned to cut the tree.
The news in no-time reached Osai, a well-known active environmental organisation working towards protecting trees and ameliorate greenery.
Sayeed from Osai team revealed that they had rescued the same tree a couple of years back too. The resident who tried to cut the tree was also levied with a fine by the Thasildhar.
The Volunteers of the NGO stated that it was heart-touching to see a crow's nest fell off the tree along with the chicks as the branches were cut off.
The callous attitude of the people on nature's assets pose a serious threat to the bio-diversity cycle. The monsoon failure in the city is yet another example for such impetuous act.
