Deceased duo often filed strange plaints

A mother and daughter were found dead inside a house on Avinashi Road on Wednesday morning. Though the bodies had been rotting for more than a month, no one imagined that the stench emanating in the area was from decaying bodies. Private security guards at an ATM told police that they assumed the foul smell in the area was due to some animal carcass rotting away.

According to police, the murdered women frequently visited the police station with strange complaints. However, they had stopped coming two months ago. "We suspect the duo to have been murdered at least a month ago," said Nisha Parthiban, deputy commissioner of police.

On Thursday afternoon, forensic experts from Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital visited the crime scene. The identity of the deceased could not be ascertained even by super imposing methods, as the skulls of the duo were completely damaged. Meanwhile, forensic experts found a few pieces of shattered bones at the crime scene which they have sent to a Chennai lab. Police were able to ascertain that one woman was killed and then burned, while the other had been attacked on the head with a stone.

Police believe the bodies of to be that of Pappathi, 60 and her daughter Geetha, 35. Her son Saravanakumar, 32, is missing.

Pappathi's husband Raju died 20 years ago. Pappathi believed her husband's death was caused due to some black magic worked on him by some of their relatives. Police said the trio was mentally disturbed, visiting the police station often, asking officials to take action against those relatives who had performed black magic against them. Police said Saravanakumar has been missing for more than a month. They suspect he had something to do with the murder and are on the lookout for him.
