Four injured during Navy recruitment rally in Mumbai's Malad

Mumbai: Four persons suffered minor injuries during the Navy recruitment rally at INS Hamla in Malad on Friday morning.

The victims were part of the 7000-plus aspiring candidates who were present for the recruitment rally at INS Hamla. The incident occurred early morning when the institute opened the gate allowing the candidates to enter in when the candidates ran in to be first in the queue.

Defence spokesperson said the incident occurred during a recruitment rally at INS Hamla Malad this morning for SSR that is Senior Secondary Recruits. "We were expecting a good response from volunteers. However the response was overwhelming and crowd control created a bit of confusion (in the early hours) which was subsequently handled very efficiently by the local police and Navy officials," said the official.

Malvani senior police inspector Milind Khetle said all went smoothly during the recent two recruitment drives that were held by the agency after candidates attended according to the call letters they received. "This drive was kept open for all. There were over 7000 candidates who came to appear for the recruitment since Thursday. We were on duty since yesterday night. Four suffered injuries when the candidates ran in immediately after the gate opened. At present the drive is being carried out smoothly," said Khetle.

The Malwani police personnel present at the recruitment rally controlled the situation and the drive is going on smoothly now.
