Traffic diversions on October 2 for Coimbatore Marathon

About 12,800 runners will run in three race categories for the Coimbatore Marathon that is scheduled to take place tomorrow morning. This marathon will be flagged off at Nehru Stadium and runners will pass through LIC junction on Avinashi Road, Huzur road and touch K.G. Theatre, Racecourse, Big Bazzar, Sungam and reach Puliakulam. Crossing the Puliakulam Vinayakar Temple runners will reach the reach Redfields Road. From there the runners will have to take the Puliakulam Kamarajr Road, Abdul Rahim Road, Huzur Road, Balasundaram Road, Womens Polytechnic Junction and from AIT Colony participants will reach VOC park. This will be finish point for all three race categories.

The half-marathon, 21-kilometer will be flagged off at 5 am followed by the 10-kilometer and five-kilometre run/ walk being flagged off at 5:45 am and 7:15 am respectively. This event is expected to conclude by 9 am. In lieu of the marathon, the following traffic diversions have been made:

1. Vehicles coming from Salem, Erode and Avinashi have to take Bharathiyar road from Lakshmi Mill junction and reach Gandhipuram.

2. Vehicles that have to reach the railway station should take a left turn at the Lakshmi mill junction and travel through Ramanathapuram and will reach Sungam through Trichy road and can go towards railway 

station and townhall.

3. Vehicles coming from Townhall towards Gandhipuram will have to take the flyover and reach Gandhipuram through the Dr. Nanjappa Road.

4. Vehicles travelling from Gandhipuram to Townhall should avoid reaching LIC junction. Instead they should travel through the Dr. Nanjappa Road and to reach the JM Bakery junction and can reach Townhall through railway station.

5. Walkers who use the park to take a morning walk are advised to park their vehicles in the Eastern Club Road and West Club Road. Those who are coming from Avinashi road should park their vehicles at the tea house road.

Vehicles will not be allowed on the routes taken by the runners. Several volunteers will be stationed at the various points throughout the marathon route. For the smooth functioning of the event, the city police has requested the corporation of the public.

This is the fourth edition of the marathon that is being organized this year. This marathon that is recognized by the Tamil Nadu Athletic Association and Coimbatore District Athletic Association is organized by Coimbatore Cancer Foundation (CCF) and Coimbatore Runners and Show Space Events. ‘Its all about making a choice’ is the theme for this year’s marathon.
