TN government to appeal Supreme Court to ensure local body elections take place as scheduled

A High Court Judge today issued an order to reschedule the upcoming local body election owing to a case filed by DMK organising secretary R. S. Bharathi. However, the Tamil Nadu state government condemned the decision of high court and has plans of appeal the supreme court regarding this case.

Confirmed reports also state that a few members of the DMK party have plans of making appeals against what they state as discrepancy in conducting the local body elections. The DMK members allege that 50 per cent of the wards have been allotted for female candidates to contest and the remaining 50 per cent of wards will be contested on general quota basis. This leaves no room for male candidates to contest in any of the wards for the upcoming local body elections.
