The Arc Foundation India to set 100 Dr. Kalam Libraries in Coimbatore

About a year ago, Coimbatore-based NGO, The Arc Foundation, flagged off their Dr. Kalam Library initiative. Under this project, this NGO has plans of setting up one hundred libraries in our city. these libraries will be set up in areas where children who do not have access to books. So far about two dozen libraries are functional in various pockets in our city.



These libraries we are told are based on a colour theme and each library will host  literacy programmes,talent hunt and storytelling sessions for children. “This month we will have a story telling session in one of our libraries. We have roped in a city-based professionals who will narrate stories with morals.” Aparna M A, Founder andJoint Managing Trustee, The Arc Foundation India says.



Baranidaran S, Founder and Managing Trustee, The ArcFoundation India shares with us that 15,000 books are stocked in the Dr. Kalam Libraries.“We are open to individuals and corporate who are willing to contribute in cash and kind to set up these libraries. Under this project, we also encourage adoption of libraries.” Baranidaran says.
