Demand this pooja season has resulted in increase of price of flowers and fruits twofold

Prices of flowers and fruits have shot up twofold due to increase in demand this pooja season. Ayutha pooja that is celebrated on October 10, which is a couple of days away, has caused the increase in demand for fruits and flowers. On the occasion of Ayutha pooja, people use flowers and to adorn Gods and Goddess. Prior to this auspicious occasion, people make a beeline to purchase flowers and fruits. Today, the flower (poo) market in our city was thronged with several people who were making a purchase ahead of this auspicious day. This also causing traffic snarls in the poo market area.

On one hand, the demand for flowers and fruits has increased and on the other hand sellers are exploiting the situation by selling the produce at a higher price. We are told that the price of fruits and flowers has been increased up to twofold. However, people still make their purchase despite the high price.

A flower merchant shares with us that the demand for flowers and fruits has decreased compared to last year. We asked him to comment on the increase in the price of flowers and fruits this season. Syed shares

“Flower market will be crowded every year during the festival seasons.

This year the demand has decreased. However, the price of the flowers has increased. The price is not decided by the sellers like us. It is decided by the wholesale dealers at Bangalore, Hosur, Rayakottai and Sathayamanagalam from where we source the flowers. Prices of fruits has also increased due to the demand.” Syed says.
