Nearly 30 years later, grandson receives compensation for police firing victim

A cheque for Rs.5 lakh was given today to the grandson of one Krishna Naicker, who died in the police firing during the farmers’ agitation between 1970 and 1980.

The cheque was given by S.P. Velumani, the Tamil Nadu Minister for Municipal Administration, to R. Vijayakrishnan, in the presence of district collector Archana Patnaik. Naicker a resident of Chinnaya Chettipudur near Sulur, was among the 47 farmers who died in the police firing during various protests.

Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa has also announced financial assistance of Rs.2 crores to the families of the farmers, and the construction of a memorial for farmer leader Narayanasamy Naidu in Vaiyampalayam.
