Police: 2 officers shot in East Boston

Two officers were shot Wednesday night in East Boston, the department said in a tweet.

Police say they located a suspect and lifted a shelter-in-place order for nearby residents, saying in a tweet the "scene is secure."

"One of my officers is being treated for life-threatening injuries, while the other's injuries appear to non-life (threatening)," Boston Police Commissioner William Evans said in a statement on Twitter. "The situation in East Boston is under control. Please pray for our officers."

Officers were responding to a report of a person with a gun at 10:51 p.m. on Gladstone Street when shots were fired.

Hours earlier, police officials and Boston Mayor Marty Walsh honoured the department's first Hispanic officer killed in the line of duty, Jose Maceira. They announced Maceira, who was shot in 1974 and died in 1977 as a result of his injuries, would be added to the BPD’s Memorial Wall of Honor in police headquarters.
