KMCH performs rare surgery on infant

Satish (name changed) from Salem visited Kovai Medical Center and Hospital (KMCH) last week. This one-year and 11-month-old infant has a medical history of repeated chest infection followed by fever. The baby’s family suspected insufficient growth of the child. Specialists at KMCH diagnosed the presence of ostium secondum that measured 2.2cm – 1.5cm. Dr. S. Balasundaram, Cardio Thoracic Surgeon at KMCH closed the Atrial Septal Defect ASD with surgical procedure, without any uneventful postoperative phase. The patient was discharged from this hospital.

A press release from this hospital stated that the mother of this child too suffered from ASD while she was young. Dr. S. Balasundaram, Cardio Thoracic Surgeon, KMCH operated upon this patient. Having been married, this patient delivered a baby through normal delivery. Doctors at this hospital share that early.

Doctors at this hospital share that one need not worry when diagnosed with CHD. The patient should approach the right hospital at right time this defect can be corrected.
