Winter session advanced to November 16

The Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs recommended that the winter session of Parliament be held from November 16 to December 16, an advancing of the parliamentary calendar aimed at the early passage of the Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) and the Integrated GST legislation.

The winter session is normally convened in the third or fourth week of November.

The government is also considering advancing the budget session by a month or so starting from January next year.

Besides the legislation relating to the GST, nearly 15 new Bills are likely to be introduced, according to government sources.

The government would also push for the passage of the ordinance which seeks to amend the Enemy Property Act to guard against claims of succession or transfer of properties left by people who migrated to Pakistan and China after wars.
