Members of Coimbatore chapter of fire cracker sales small traders association seek licences to sell fire crackers

Diwali is just a couple of weeks away. Coimbatore firecracker sales small traders association called for a meeting today. At this meeting several resolutions were passed. Members of this association discussed that the central government has made it mandatory for small traders to obtain licences before venturing into sales of firecrackers. However, the district administration has hitherto not issued the necessary licences to these traders.

“We are just two weeks away from Diwali. As we have not yet received the necessary licences and hence we are unable to purchase firecrackers. The government at the centre states that licence for temporary shops should be one month in advance.” Secretary of this association said. He also stated that the sales tax department should simplify the process for applying temporary sales tax licence.

The members of this association also decided to work against the idea of selling firecrackers that are imported from China this season. Also on the cards is a meeting with the district collector to put forth this proposal.
