Civic body undertakes UGD repair work in Sukhrawarpet

Traffic diversions in place on Mill Road, V.H. Road, and a few other roads in the area

The Coimbatore Corporation on Friday commenced work to repair the damaged underground drainage pipeline in Sukhrawarpet.

According to the sources, the works were taken up following damage to the UGD line that carried sewage from Thadagam Road and areas north thereof to the Ukkadam sewage treatment plant through Mill Road and Good Shed Road. The civic body workers began digging near the Oppanakara Street and the stretch of Mill Road west of the Oppanakara Street junction to identify where the old cement pipeline had caved in. Only after it identified the place of damage, would it be possible to repair the damage, the sources said.

Ten days

It would easily take 10 days for the civic body to complete the work and restore the road, they added.

The works led to traffic disruption for a while on Mill Road that is taking additional traffic following the existing diversion on Krishnaswamy Road (Brooke Bond Road).

Traffic diversion

Coimbatore City Traffic Police said that traffic diversions were in place on Mill Road, V.H. Road, and a few other roads in the area. Bus routes were also altered to ensure smooth flow of traffic in Sukhrawarpet.
